Zag basketball - no buzz?
Nick Geranios of the AP sees Gonzaga basketball without buzz this year in a recent column he penned which has appeared in the PI, Spokesman and other outlets.
Its easy to notice that the Zags haven’t been all over the national media this year, but its really interesting to me that this is even a story. Gonzaga, a small school in a small town on the west coast has no right being the center of the college basketball world. No media buzz and a couple more loses that usual is just fine by me. The expectations of last years squad were a bit rediculous and its nice to be able to appreciate the hard fought wins for what they are: wins. It’s going to be fun being the underdog again come tournament time.
This years team is going to leave their own mark on this programs history, one way or another.
Sean,
I am going to respectfully disagree with you on this one. I liked having our squad in the spotlight, because that was a result of us winning. Now, the buzz is nonexistent because we are a nonstory. We are a nonstory because we lost too much before conference play.
If anything, those losses served to show our squad and undergrad fan base that winning is not a given.
But as someone who relies on news stories as opposed to watching games live, I welcome all the buzz we can get.
Go Zags.
