Who needs the Huskies when you’ve got the Cougs
I’m sitting around taking in the college basketball season that has just started and looking at the big games coming up on the Zags schedule. St Joes, UConn, Wazzu, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Memphis…
I realized that something was missing, and then remembered that the Huskies decided they couldn’t handle any more losses to the Zags in December, hurting their recruiting efforts and March Madness resumes.
Last year, this Turner/Romar avoidance of the Zags bugged me, and I was convinced this was a bad thing for the fans. It bothered me most that our dominance wouldnt get the chance to continue and I figured I’d chalk every year of the Huskies choosing not to play us as a forfeit win in the series.
But now, you know what, who cares? The Cougars are the pre-eminent Washington basketball school in the Pac10 this season and for the foreseeable future, and we’ll look forward to building the rivalry with them. When was the last time UW was ranked in the Top 6 in the country? Next weeks matchup in Spokane is going to be a good one.
