WOW #19
After a couple of months off, the wine of the week has returned. My teamates at work bought me a gift certificate to my favorite wine shop this week, for my birthday. I went right over to Pete’s in Bellevue that afternoon and picked up something new for the occasion.
Medici Pinot Noir 2000 East Vineyard.
I am a sucker for anything that has anything to do with Florence, and I’ll admit that this purchase was purely motivated by the name on the bottle, and an interest in trying a new Pinot.
Hearing the stories behind how the wine was created, and the histories of the vineyards is one of the most exciting parts about the wine experience for me and I was able to find some history on these folks: it appears that they were some of the very early planters of Pinot in the Williamette Valley during the 70’s. the east vineyard, from which this bottle’s grapes were grown, was planted in 1976. they also are the vinters of the very popular and highly sought after Sineann wines.
I really like Pinot, and this was a rather good one. It was a little tart for me, but I have added them to the list for our next trip to Williamette Valley or even my next trip to Pete’s. Check out the Seattle Times commentary on Oregon Pinot Noir’s, including this bottle from Medici.
