Wine of the Week 25
The final wine of the week of 2006 was a wedding gift from a good friend.
Fattoria del Cerro Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2002
According to them: The Fattoria del Cerro Vino Nobile is a beautiful and elegant wine, made from 90% Sangiovese, 5% Colorino and 5% Canaiolo Nero and Mammolo and aged in Slovenian oak casks for 18 months. The wine is a deep, dark, rich, inky purple showing nice concentration and exuding delicious aromas of sweet dark fruits, black cherries, graphite and dried herbs. This medium-bodied wine is still very young, tight with firm tannins, densely concentrated with dark, rich fruit flavors, and left the lingering finish of dried cherries.
According to Sean O’Connor: I really enjoy learning about the wine regions of Italy and the different DOC’s and DOCG’s. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is one of the 9 DOCG’s of Italy, and one that I had not tried previously. There is a lot of Sangiovese in this wine, and I enjoyed sharing the bottle with my wife over some beef soup we cooked up with Christmas prime rib leftovers. The wine has the quintessential fruity dryness that you come to expect from wines of this region.
