Wine of the Week #10
Last night I met with a few friends at an up and coming wine bar on Queen Anne in Seattle: Bricco. The place was packed all night. I had a very enjoyable time and am looking forward to going back soon. On to the wine of the week, which we had last night.
According to them: Produced by Ceretto, the Blange Arneis is an excellent Arneis. From the Piedmont area of Italy, this Arneis features a Dry taste and White color.
According to Guest Contributor Sam Howard: Recommended at our request for “not too sweet, but not too dry,” and the Arneis did not disappoint. A generous helping of sunlight splashed onto our tongues and burst to life, dancing down with a surprising twinge of sparkle. This playful white created an immediate smile our faces, as if it were a young child trying to pull off a clever trick by sneaking past our taste buds without being noticed. Instead, our eyes opened wide and we laughed at how the fresh hint of Italian sun was trying to hide its sparkling impact. This lively, bouncy wine would be an excellent summertime picnic bottle served with fish, pasta salad, or melon, but absolutely must be enjoyed with a friend.
According to me: Despite this being the second bottle of our evening at Bricco, and following up a fantastic Oregon Pinot Noir one of my vino cohorts face lit up like a kid on Christmas morning upon diving head first into this refreshing Italian white. In some ways this wine was similiar to last week’s french white. Right off the bat I got the sour apple taste. Unlike the french white which had a bland flatness to it, this Arneis had a crisp and almost asti-spumante like feel to it. I’m going to look for this one at the specialty shops and grocery stores.
Guess contributor, I love it!
