Trading the Sonics for the Reds
I was just thinking this week - I don’t even like the NBA, I don’t like the way the game is played, I don’t have a team (other than the default hometown Sonics and my childhood team Boston Celtics who haven’t been worth watching for 15 years). Do I really care if the Sonics previous owners and new owners are all horrific liars? Do I really care if they bolt to OkC?
Why not trade my time watching the NBA for a far superior professional sport - European Soccer. Is it possible? Could I really be a soccer fan year round, not just once every 4 years?
Along with the Sonics pending move to Oklahoma City, and my general disinterest in Adam Morrison’s early NBA career (even though my Zag buddies follow his every summer league shot) the sports guy spurred this thought through his take on picking an English Premier League team as his own. Check it out - Choosing My EPL Team.
After reading this brilliant essay on English soccer, I proclaim my team to follow for the upcoming season as Liverpool. I suppose I must sign up for the extended sports package from Comcast cable, but I think I can handle that small investment. Liz?
I’ll always be a Fiorentina fan as well, but unfortunately they have been demoted yet again. At least my team wasn’t Juventus. They are dun-ski.
So, here is to the Liverpool Reds, may your season be more sucessful than a wide open Ray Allen jumper.
Sonics, buh-bye, I won’t really miss you.
