My highlight of the Seattle Snowstorm
I was watching the King 5 news tonight here in Seattle, and they appropriately spent the entire broadcast covering Seattle’s snowstorm and ensuing deep freeze - which has left many of the roads in the area very icy.
Growing up in Eastern Washington and driving in snow and icy roads for many years, its always interesting to watch how people react when we do get an infrequent snowstorm on this side of the state. Granted vehicles are not as well equiped, the highways are busier, there are less plows, and many roads are much steeper so its understandable. In fact many people were stuck on the freeway for hours, and it even took some guys 14 hours to drive to Portland after the Seahawks game, so there really were significant inconveniences caused by three or four inches of snow and temperatures that haven’t cleared 30 in the last 24 hours.
Today, friends shared stories of abandoning cars, abandoning busses, walking miles in the cold snow, and commutes longer the new James Bond movie. All that said, good stories and all, my lasting memory of November 06 was broadcast on the 6 o’clock news tonight: one guy ferociously shoveling the three inches of snow from his driveway into the bed of his Ford Ranger pickup. I hope he disposed of that snow properly.
