#2 - Pepperdine 2000

Sophomore year in the Kennel. This game was the loudest I have ever witnessed. Gonzaga and Pepperdine were fierce rivals during these years, and every game was hotly contested.

This game in particular stands out as it seemed the crowd just willed the team to comeback from a double digit second half deficit.

The memorable sequence from this game was Matt Santagelo’s up and under move to tie the game, and Axel Dench banking in a three pointer on the very next possession to take the lead for good. This team was so damn fun watch… the way they played together, and the way someone different got hot every night. Santangelo, Dench, Frahm, Nielson, and Floyd…. that was the class that all classes will measured against.

Mr. Howard. That was the most athletic move by a Zag, up to that point in time.

I totally agree, Sean. I loved watching those guys! Oh, the good ol’ days. I remember that Pepperdine game vividly! What a rush?

Hey there, was just surfing around and came across this website. I have to say you’re right and that game was truly amazing. I appreciate that the team has has success in the years since we graduated but I’d have to say that it would be hard to imitate the emotion that we felt and the rush we got from the crowd in those last 5 minutes when we came back through a truly amazing series of plays one after the other. Glad to hear other people thought it was as good as we did!
